About EV Roam
EV Roam is the first register of e-mobility IDs for Chargepoint Operators (CPO) and e-Mobility Service Providers (MSP) in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
Mass adoption of electric vehicles requires a far-reaching and smart charging infrastructure. It requires the development of interoperable roaming which ensures that charging stations can be located throughout the UK and Europe, and that drivers receive the right payment settlements. To help make this a reality, CPO and MSP are issued with unique IDs for their charging stations and contracts.
REAL is responsible for issuing and managing the EV Roam ID register.
The ID Register
EV Roam is the first register of e-mobility IDs for Chargepoint Operators (CPO) and e-Mobility Service Providers (MSP) in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
The ID works as an identifier only, helping to identify businesses and their charging assets or their charging customers. Without these unique identifiers MSPs and/or CPOs could have the same identifiers meaning relevant IT systems would not be able to deal with the exchange of data accurately.
Apply
REAL issues each registered CPO and MSP with the first 5 characters of the ID which will be unique and listed on the EV Roam register.
IDs are used as individual identifiers, for each MSP customer contract and for each chargepoint, charge station and/or charge pool operated by the CPO. Having these unique identifiers means the MSPs and CPOs can exchange data, allowing for a seamless charging and billing experience for the EV driver.
REST API
EV Roam provides a REST API to query the ID Register in full or return a single record by Operator ID (CPO) or Service Provider ID (MSP).
A large part of the data exchange is done via IT systems. These systems need the CPO and MSP to have unique IDs so that they can first set up the connections and then manage the exchange of data.
